2020 PETER SCOTT AWARD

Alan Docker

Alan Docker is the fifth person to receive the Peter Scott Award for Outstanding Contribution to Charity (2020). His desire to help others and his resourcefulness has seen him spend nearly six decades helping those in need in Barrow.

Born and educated in Barrow, Alan began helping others as a 16-year-old with his church youth group. He continued with his volunteer youth work right through married life and raising his own family, as well as being a church pastor. In 2003 he set up and registered the Walney Community Trust (WCT) as a charity. Under Alan’s leadership it has become a thriving hub of activity offering support and help to many people of all ages. The Centre creates a warm welcome, a safe space, and a community to be part of.

The Peter Scott Award for Outstanding Contribution to Charity comes with a grant of £2,500 which Alan planned to use to convert an old lean-to building at the Centre into a fridge and freezer storage space. It means Walney Community Trust will be able to distribute more food to those in the need in the community.
